MEDICINE, INC. is a timely, concise, and deeply informative book about how Americans everywhere are being taken to the cleaners when it comes to paying for medical care.
A family practice physician with over 35 years in the field, Dr. Heneisen has a plethora of experiences. In his distinguished career, he has operated a very lucrative family practice, been an emergency department physician, started a free community health clinic, served as chief of staff of a county hospital and long-term care facility, and the founder of a family health and birth center. Dr. Heneisen has seen it all. He is very concerned about how widespread corporate greed and bloated care models are designed solely to optimize corporate profits.
With passion and insight, Dr. Heneisen guides the reader through the perilous jungle that is the American health care system, revealing the pitfalls and the causes for such hazards. But he doesn’t leave us there. He lays out a plan for a systemic overhaul of how health care is delivered and paid for. He shows us how the medical model of yesterday holds the key to a modern, patient-centered system that is making all the difference in the world. It’s far less expensive and far less complicated than what most Americans face now. And it offers better care. His own private practice serves as a successful model for patients and doctors alike.
Whether you have health insurance, you are on Medicare or Medicaid, or you pay for your own health care, doctors and hospitals are overcharging for services in a big way. No matter how you slice it, the average patient ends up footing the bill. It’s time to end the dollar-driven system of overpriced and unnecessary protocols that make doctors and corporate shareholders rich, while patients continue to struggle. It’s time to stand up to MEDICINE, INC.

Medicine Inc A Doctor View of How You're Being Ripped Off by Medical Care at Every Level edition by Jack Heneisen MD Professional Technical eBooks Reviews
This book is a MUST READ for everyone who has ever had health insurance,
Or anyone who has ever been injured!
Surprisingly easy to read and understand!
Very well worded, and written, by one of the most brilliant Physician's
in the Coastal Empire!
This was certainly an eye opening book! The author manages to explain the problems w/ healthcare and WHY they became problems. Also offers immediate solutions to patients as well as long term solutions for society. Very good read, worth the $10, and I find it applicable whether you have no insurance or premium health insurance.
This is an interesting view of hidden (to the patient) medical costs. He works with this every day so he knows where the inflated and unnecessary costs are. It shows there are ways to make our medical system work should there be enough interest on the part of the enough of the players to do it.
After thousands of dollars spent with primary care physicians and pain management doctors who ordered all the wrong tests and gave me the run around for years, I was advised to see Dr. Heneisen. I was dubious to walk into a facility with modest furnishings. Unlike my previous visits where average wait times were 2-4 hours, I was seen 15 minutes after my appointment. Managed care=0, Dr. Heneisen=1. I was given an opportunity to let him know what was going on. He referred me to a Neurologist. Managed care=0, Dr. Heneisen=2. Checked out and paid $50 for the visit Managed care=0, Dr. Heneisen=3. He recommended I get my prescriptions from Kroger's because they had what I needed for the spasms and neuropathic pain for a whopping $4. I paid a total of $8 for two brand new medications. Managed care=0, Dr. Heneisen=4.Followed up with Neurologists who charged me $683 for a ten minute visit. Managed care=0, Dr. Heneisen=5. Nuerologist wanted an MRI of my brain to rule out Multiple Sclerosis. Dr. Heneisen recommended I call various Imaging centers and inquire about prices. Managed care=0, Dr. Heneisen=6. Prices ranged from $3,885 to $900 for a brain MRI. Instead of waiting for pre-authorization from the Big Blue health care provider, paid $900 and was scheduled immediately. Results were sent to Neurologist. Neurologist office never called for a follow-up appointment but did call to remind me of my co-payment. Managed care=0. Instead, I was proactive and requested results of the MRI. A copy was provided to Dr. Heneisen. The receptionist said you should speak with Dr. Heneisen about these results. Dr. Heneisen=7. Waited approximately 15 minutes and met with Dr. Heneisen. He looked at me, asked some specific questions about family history and said you have MS lesions in your brain. That, coupled with low vitamin D, fatigue, and cognitive farts points to MS. Dr. Heneisen=8. This was my second visit with him. Checked out and was told there were no charges for follow-up appointments. Dr. Heneisen=9. During the wait time, needed medication for high cholesterol. Called primary care office and was told that I need to come in for an appointment. Managed care=0. Why couldn't they just send the request to the pharmacy? I have been on this cholesterol medication for well over 3 years. Took results of brain MRI to my primary care physician. Physician stated that I would need a nerve conduction test and a spinal tap for a diagnosis of MS, despite results stating there were brain lesions and flares. Managed care wanted to send me for more exams. More running around from my managed care team =0. Dr. Heneisen listened, read the same results, and adjusted my medication to help with the MS in 2 visits that cost me a total of $58. Meanwhile, I had a stack of co-pays, pre-authorizations for unnecessary exams and blood-work from the past 4 years for issues relating to MS. Dr. Heneisen=10
This is a real life story of "one" patient. He has 10 chapters in this riveting book that discusses how the health care system is pickpocketing our wallets. This is a must read. Unless we begin to educate ourselves to these games, we will continue to run around getting tests, blood-work, etc., that are not necessary. It's a vicious cycle that can only be stopped one patient at a time. True to how he operates, the book is less than $10. Is $10 worth learning about the system and what you can do to be proactive? You bet it is.
